solidarity in boredom!

spent a few good hours helping a council campaign group paint their banner.
I kind of really miss painting, just losing myself in colours and brushstrokes - idk, sometimes I really regret not continuing with art as a subject but other times there’s no regret at all?

I am still really hung up over being kicked out of art club. 유_____유 #biggestloser

on a side note I didn’t do the design this time, just executed what the group wanted. had to paint it over one more time because the first time we used poster paint instead of acrylic and yes, I wasn’t thinking very hard the first time. I think it turned out pretty well in the end though C: vote v for vivacious guyyys

cup doodles!
no idea if I do these because I am bored with conversations in cafes, or just can’t resist drawing on things when I have a permanent marker in my hands \o/

coursework description~

In recent years, with the global transition into an age of globalization and technology, cities have grown bigger and brighter. Places such as Tokyo, New York, and even Singapore have become ‘the place to be’, where money is made, where the lights never go off, where modernization is at its peak. Rendered digitally in Adobe Illustrator, this artwork seeks to allow viewers to rediscover the beauty and find wonder in the cities they live in or visit, not simply in their modernity, but also in their culture, history, and intangible aspects.

A while ago I used to spend all my free time in class doodling on cue cards, filling them up and giving them to people as bookmarks and stuff. Nowadays I actually make an effort to pay attention - hence the incomplete cue cards. It’s really a great exercise for the imagination though, choosing a theme then thinking of enough little things to draw to fill up the empty space.

For our module on fashion design last year, we were given this as an inspiration and tasked to come up with, well, fashion designs. Personally fashion design is one of my favourite things to do, so I had a lot of fun with this module.

Started off with coming up with ten or so designs, my favourite of which are here :3 I was trying to balance the blend between the organic shapes and the rigid base structures of the stimulus, so one of the common motifs you’ll see is the cagelike structure accompanied with more flowy fabrics in the colours I imagined the fungi? bacteria? whatever the stimulus was to be.

So in the end I decided on a long dress, which I found the most interesting/aesthetically appealing of my designs. Most evening gowns tend to be clingy and/or flowy and drapy, so the juxtaposition of the length of the dress with the stiff, cagey feel was a design that I was happy with! I’d like to have a chance to experiment with different final colours, though, perhaps something monochromatic to make it seem less organic and alien.

pencil sketches I’ve been collecting over the last few years. nothing really much interesting to say about these, but… practice makes perfect? I mean, sooner or later your pencil sketching has /got/ to improve, it’s much more technical than ‘artistic’ per se…. so. These are the fruits of my practice.

One of my first few attempts at properly pencil-sketching people, actually! I love how the clothing folds turned out, clothing folds are always the bane of my design existence, but they’re really easy when all you have to do is copy :D

Some things I drew for an earlier coursework idea. I doooon’t know if you’d say these were successful, really, they were done very quickly over the course of a high-speed-train-ride-across-Taiwan (during which everyone who walked past me on the train leaned over to stare), and I’m not too happy with the proportion. Ohwell, always room for improvement!
